Weight loss Myth #1: There is a magic pill out there that will melt off pounds while letting you sit around, leading a sedentary life, eating whatever you want.
Fact: If you want to lose weight and keep it off, you absolutely must be ready to change your lifestyle by making healthier food choices and becoming more active.
Weight loss Myth #2: Fad diets really do work to help you lose weight and keep it off.
Fact: Fad diets might work in the short-term by “tricking” your body’s metabolism into reacting differently, but in the long-term, all fad diets disappear and your body reverts to its old set point, causing you to gain back all the weight you have lost and more.
Weight Loss Myth #3: High Protein and Low Carb Diets Really Work
Fact: Your body needs carbohydrates, and over the long term, if you continue to push protein and deprive your body of carbohydrates, you’ll have more health problems on your hands then just being overweight. And if you are getting your high protein from red meat, eggs, and cheese, you could be adversely affecting your cholesterol levels and increasing your chance of heart disease.
Weight Loss Myth #4: Eat Whatever You Want and Still Lose Weight
Fact: To lose weight, you must burn more calories each day than you consume. If you work out for three hours every day, you certainly can eat more calories than someone who does not exercise at all, but losing weight ultimately comes down to consuming less calories than you burn, regardless of their source.
Weight Loss Myth #5: Eating at Night Makes You Gain Weight
Fact: The reality is that a healthy snack late in the evening can actually help boost your metabolism. The problem is that late in the evening, most people eat mindlessly in front of the TV and do not realize how many calories they are consuming, resulting in weight gain attributed to late night eating that is actually because of how much is eaten.
Weight loss Myth #6: Skipping Meals is a Great Way to Lose Weight
Fact: Skipping meals, especially breakfast, is one of the worst ways to sabotage your metabolism. Whether you eat three regular sized meals or six smaller snack size meals, your body needs continued fuel in order to have energy and maintain a decent metabolic rate. When you skip a meal or starve yourself, your body instinctually slows your metabolism to compensate, making it even more difficult to burn calories and lose weight.
Weight loss Myth #7: You Don’t Need to Exercise to Lose Weight
Fact: Exercising not only keeps your heart and lungs healthy but reduces stress, helps you sleep better, burns more calories, and aids in digestion – all things that can make managing your weight even easier.
