Obesity statistics

The recent world obesity statistics have disclosed a dangerous number of overweight and obese individuals. The facts that they state as regards 2009 are briefly stated below:
1. In the last 10 years, obesity levels have shot up 20 times more. The leading states in this regard are USA, England and Canada.
2. Obesity rates have increased in all aspects – Age, gender and ethnic groups
3. Around 28% of men and 27% of women aged 16-24 are obese in the world. And, about 76% of men and 68% of women between 55 and 64 of ages are obese.
4. As per the American National Center for Health statistics, between 1962 and 2000, the rate of obese people in USA raised from 13% to a shocking 31%. At present, about 63% of Americans are overweight (men and women are about equally represented) with a BMI of 25 or more.
5. In England, just about 46% of men and 32% of women are overweight (a BMI of 25-30), and an additional 17% of men and 21% of women are obese. According to the 2002 statistics, about 13% of 8 year olds and 17% of 15 year olds in the UK were obese.
